Im-Pressed

II Corinthians … pressed out of measure
Today I cleaned the cobwebs off my iron and put it in a storage bin. Having discovered at our rented house Allen Town that a closet is a deep, dark, inviting haven for mosquitoes and – yuck – super-sized spiders, we decided to omit them when building our house in Baomahun. In their place we have airy open shelves on which to keep our clothing. This works great for keeping out the creepy crawly critters but it brings a problem of another sort.
I have always liked closets because I can keep up with the ironing and our just-pressed clothing hangs crisp and ready for use. Not that I like ironing, because truly I don’t, but I do like our clothes to look their best. But with the shelves our well ironed clothes become quite compressed. Then when needed, they are all wrinkles which makes me a little depressed. Wanting to look proper I start to feel oppressed as the clothes need to be repressed. >sigh<
But then I joyfully discovered something very amazing:
Sweat + Heat = Steam
A basic formula which really impressed me.
Now I simply remove my unironed, horribly wrinkled, compressed clothing from my spider-free shelf and just … put it on. Voila – good to go! After a little house work or tending my chickens or other morning chores, I am sufficiently soggy to have released all the offending wrinkles. I can then walk to market looking my very best, that is if you don’t mind the beads of sweat running down my face, neck, and back. And now when we make a trip into the big city for errands, I no longer concern myself with wondering how we will look. I know that after our bumpy ride I will be beat up, sweaty, tired, and dusty but when we finally arrive in Bo, we will emerge from the truck quite happily wrinkle free – no pressing required.
